Details: Our school was formed after suffering the devastating loss of our founder, Grand Master Clarence E. West. He passed away suddenly, in November of 2008, in a fire that consumed our karate school in Wintersville, OH. His death was an unexpected shock felt by his students and our community as a whole. Master West was a beloved teacher and respected businessman who was widely recognized for his unending generosity, self-discipline, boisterous personality and his colorful tuxedos and fedoras. In appreciation for tremendous impact he has had on so many lives, we continue share his legacy by carrying on his Martial Arts System, Wae Kune Do. We are dedicated to the preservation and advancement of Wae Kune Do as originated by our Sensei!

Kids Program Detail: West Karate's Pre-School and Youth Martial Arts Program builds a strong foundation in social and emotional learning using realistic martial arts instruction. You will see improvements in your child's attitude; their ability to engage and show empathy towards others; as well as an improvement in making responsible decisions. There is a built-in physicality with practicing martial arts, so your child will be encouraged to be active and exercise. This will improve your child's aerobic activity, muscle and bone strength, and their flexibility. But what makes our Martial Arts program unique is that we go beyond the physical skills as we incorporate Verbal Martial Arts into our curriculum. Unfortunately bullying is a huge problem and we teach kids how to deflect bullying by using tactical communication methods. These methods allow kids to communicate clearly, think critically and creatively, and solve problems effectively.
