Category 5 Mma

Lakewood, WA - 98499 | (253) 441-5184

Details: Hey, it's James Johnson Jr. and I'm the owner of Category 5 MMA. I started my martial arts journey as a young kid. I was trained in Tang Soo Do by my father James Johnson Sr. As a teenager I earned my Black belt under the Universal Martial Arts Federation. I had a very traditional martial arts beginning that gave me the foundation I needed to be more disciplined and respectful. I wrestled in high school, but never won state. As soon as I turned 18 I enlisted in the US Army, and that's where my Olympic journey began as a Greco Roman wrestler. I'm blessed to have travelled around the world, met some amazing wrestlers I still call friends, and competed at the highest level. When I finally decided to move forward and become a Drill Sergeant to train our next generation soldiers , this is how I met Professor and Team Alliance Black Belt Andrew Chappelle. Professor Chappelle introduced me to art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). I'm proud to have the honor to train our soldiers as an Army Master Combatives Instructor. When I first opened this academy I had already been training hundreds of soldiers and civilians. In Martial Arts for preparation in real life situations. Watching our kids become so confident after training brings me a great sense of pride. I'm very deep into my Jiu-Jitsu journey, but I still focus on continuous growth. As a natural competitor in high level wrestling and martial art's I can confidently say this is in my DNA. As an owner of Category 5 MMA, I push myself to make sure you get the best instruction you can get. Most importantly I pride our academy on helping our students reach their goal. Let us know your goals and I'll make sure we do everything we can to make you our next big success story.
