Details: Professor Marcelo “Lapela” Mafra has been practicing Jiu Jitsu for over 16 years and is dedicated coach, active competitor, and reigning World Champion. Originating from Sao Paulo, Brazil, Marcelo is a true Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt under BJJ Legend and current UFC Fighter, Demian Maia. Fighting under the CheckMat Banner, Marcelo is one of the top competitors in the sport and renowned instructors that teaches and emphasizes the purest and most original forms of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. CheckMat Mafra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was founded in January 2012 as an effort to spread Jiu Jitsu and its healthy lifestyle and make a positive impact on the community. Kids Program Detail: The Beginner/ Kids Program here at CheckMat Mafra BJJ is a great way for your child to mature, while learning self-defense and a martial art. Your child will stay active, meet future friends, and have a blast. Being both a martial art and contact sport this kids program not only teaches Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu but also shapes a brighter future for your child. The program strays away from the “win/lose contest philosophy” and focuses on building a hard work ethic, a positive attitude, and a love for Jiu-Jitsu. Classes include techniques, drills, games, physical conditioning and sparring. All of which will aid your child in other sports and in life by enhancing coordination, strength, strength, reflexes, balance and agility. For the Intermediate Program, we have created a curriculum that focuses on the core techniques that every Jiu-Jitsu practitioner should know. Focusing on both the self defense and sport aspect of Jiu-Jitsu, this program is great for ensuring that each new student gets a high quality introduction into Jiu-Jitsu while allowing for more advanced students to perfect the basics. The goal of this Program is to prepare new students to advance in their skill level, and allow more advanced students to refine their technique. Our Advanced Kids Program is perfect for any athlete that is looking to take his or her game to the next level. This class focuses on Jiu-Jitsu as a sport and is geared toward getting our competitors ready for tournaments. It features hands on coaching that will help each student find and develop his or her personal Jiu-Jitsu style. This class will also include hard drilling, competitive sparring, and conditioning. Although the class is designed for competitors it is not exclusive. It is open to all intermediate level belts and up who are interested in high intensity training.
