Head Professor: Tad Merryman

Details: Alpha was founded by Tad Merryman and Ben Lanier and is the first academy that focuses on the complete development of jiu jitsu students. We offer classes beginning for students as young as 4 years old and spanning every age group into adulthood. We offer youth classes for students 6-14 years of age at different skill levels (fundamentals and advanced) to provide students with the foundation they need to succeed and offering curriculum that will continue to challenge them as they grow up in the sport. The adult program continues to educate students in the constantly evolving sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and challenges them each and every class physically and mentally. Our Instructors are the best in the area and dedicated to giving the best instruction available. We are also in the early stages of harnessing technology to aid in the retention of BJJ. We are working with developers to create an app specifically catered to the needs of a BJJ student. Student discipline and respect are essential to our academy. Students will be taught to lead by example and learn accountability in addition to technical knowledge of BJJ as they progress through their belt promotions. Kids Program Detail: BJJ Kids 4-8 Fundamentals: Focuses on a specific checklist of positions and techniques geared towards preparing students for the Advanced BJJ Program. The curriculum is catered towards our youngest students. BJJ Kids 9-14 Fundamentals: Focuses on a specific checklist of positions and techniques. The curriculum is the same across all of the fundamental programs but covered at a different depth depending on the age group. BJJ Kids 6-14 Competition: Same material that is covered in the fundamentals classes, but with more intensity and sparring from neutral position. BJJ Kids 4-14 Fundamentals: On Saturdays, we combine all age groups into a large review class of the techniques that were covered during the week. The younger students benefit from the added maturity and the older students grow as leaders. Kids 6-14 Advanced: Focuses on sequence trees of advanced positions and techniques. Instructors offer individualized instruction tailored to the students strengths. Students participating in this class have demonstrated sound knowledge of the fundamentals curriculum.
