Details: Marin Mixed Martial Arts (MarinMMA) was founded by Mikyo Riggs in 2006. Mikyo Riggs is a professional martial artist and a highly prominent figure in the Mixed Martial Arts community. He started his career in martial arts over two decades ago and holds black belts in multiple styles, including Gracie Jiu Jitsu. Mikyo has trained with world renowned Martial artists and some of today’s top professional fighters. His extensive training, combined with his education in Psychology, is what shaped the foundation of MarinMMA. Marin Mixed Martial Arts specializes in practical self defense training and it incorporates all of the styles that are used in professional Mixed Martial Arts – Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai Kickboxing, American boxing, and wrestling. MarinMMA has molded these styles into one complete Martial Art which allows our students to understand both ground fighting as well as stand up fighting. This combination of Martial Arts styles has become the most complete and effective self-defense known today.

Kids Program Detail: Lion Cubs (ages 3-5) - Our Lion Cubs class is designed for the younger children who are just making their way into the world of Martial Arts. This kid’s martial arts class focuses on setting the foundation of Martial Arts while challenging students to be self-reliant, quick thinkers, and life-long learners. Classes are fun, friendly and safe while teaching our unique blend of the striking and grappling arts. Children must be out of diapers to participate in class. Little Lions (ages 5-8) - The Little Lions curriculum teaches self-defense, cooperation, self-control, mind-body coordination, concentration, and patience. Our belt system rewards students and creates confidence and assertiveness. We always begin the class with a Mat Chat that build good character in kid’s by using the powerful words from Black Belts like Professor Mikyo Riggs to encourage good manners, self-discipline, trustworthiness, and much more. From there, we teach striking and grappling fundamentals through fun games that disguise technique practice and give the kids an enjoyable workout. Kid’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (age 8-14 – class is divided by size/skill) - Kid’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teaches kids the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and introduces them to sparring. Classes are taught in a safe environment that fosters camaraderie and team unity while inspiring individual confidence and empowerment. Students will learn strategy, drills, techniques, self defense, and play games in this class. This class requires a Jiu Jitsu uniform, also called the “Gi”, and uses a traditional Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu belt ranking system. Kid’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the pinnacle of our kid’s martial arts classes where we develop a high level of technique in even our beginner students. Whether your child has been training martial arts since they were in diapers or is just starting on the road to black belt, this class will give them the tools to help them grow into confident, mature, healthy, and honorable young adults.

Woman Only Program Detail: The Marin MMA Women’s Program combines effective self-defense techniques with drills that simulate realistic attack and escape situations. In addition to drilling and techniques, the class offers a fitness component exclusive to martial arts.
