Details: Checkmat Lynchburg is Lynchburg’s premier Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy. Checkmat is a Top-3 ranked team in the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation (IBJJF), and Lynchburg’s only school with tournament-tested Black Belt instructors. Robert and Kellie are the co-owners and founders of Checkmat Lynchburg in Lynchburg, Virginia. Checkmat Lynchburg opened in October 2017 and is an affiliate of the world renowned international Checkmat team. Checkmat Lynchburg is the first Checkmat affiliate in VA and is also known as Checkmat Virginia. Rob and Kellie have been training Jiu Jitsu – and to a lesser extent Judo, Wrestling, and MMA-– for a combined total of 30 years. Their diverse experience, strong work ethic, and competition success gives Lynchburg the best team that anyone could want to train with, and to learn the fine art of Self-Defense and Sport Jiu Jitsu from.

Kids Program Detail: We love our kids. Our kids get top notch instruction from upper level belts – including Purple, Brown, and Blackbelts. The Intro to BJJ class for kids (Ages 5-13) focuses on learning a very specific set of body movements and techniques so that they will be able to join our Intermediate & Advanced Kids classes quickly. These body movements and techniques are critical for their success in BJJ so we have an entire set of classes dedicated to making sure that they learn these fundamental parts of the game in order to be successful with more difficult material as they mature and improve.

Woman Only Program Detail: Jiu Jitsu can be intimidating and overwhelming for women in the beginning, but it’s one of the best things females can learn for self-defense. Here at Checkmat Lynchburg we offer the largest group of female training partners possibly in the state, led by Kellie Stewart-Hurd – the ONLY female BJJ Black Belt in Lynchburg. Enjoy learning excellent technical instruction in a safe, friendly, and comfortable environment with lots of women just like you!
